New York, NY (June 7, 2024) - Today, award-winning, 20-year-old singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist, Veronica Lewis, has released her latest single, “Unless I Call,” featured on her upcoming album, Too Late For Tears, for an August 16 release via Moonwink Records/Symphonic.

"Unless I Call," set to an infectious, upbeat melody, is about one-sided relationships and the moment you are ready to move on. Discussing the single, Veronica notes, “Ever have anyone in your life that you’d literally never see again if you didn’t call them first? I wrote this song about someone like that in my life. I felt stuck in a one-sided relationship and was ready to move on. I’ve totally yelled these lyrics in my car more than a few times."

The video for the single features a striking juxtaposition of images: Veronica performing in a bright field, filled with a herd of vintage rocking horses and in a dark city-scape, with a row of phone booths from the legendary, long-closed Roseland Ballroom in New York City. Watch + share it  via YouTube.

A candid exploration of the shifting dynamics within friendships, “Unless I Call” vividly depicts the frustration of one-sided efforts in maintaining the relationship, where the protagonist finds themselves constantly reaching out without receiving reciprocal gestures. As the lyrics poignantly state, "I'm done with you and me and everything we'll never be," capturing a moment of self-empowerment and signaling a decision to move on.

Throughout Veronica authentically navigates the complexities of friendships evolving over time. The song serves as a reminder to listeners to prioritize self-care and cherish the connections that truly matter.

Veronica wrote, produced and performed all of the instruments (except acoustic drums) on the record, about which she says, "This is me growing up and coming to terms with things we all struggle with… disillusionment, self-discovery,  the beauty and flaws you find in yourself, and the world around you."

Veronica has already been hailed as “One of the most promising torchbearers of American rock n’ roll” by American Songwriter. Performing since age 12, Veronica took the blues and roots scene by storm with an early album that was heaped with accolades and awards, hitting #2 on Billboard Blues Charts. With her years of intense performing, creating and growing up, Veronica has quickly evolved, finding a unique style as a songwriter and musician. Veronica’s sonic odyssey is part of the groundswell of female artists who are redefining the meaning of singer/songwriter in modern American rock. With this album she shows a singular vision, confidence, and stunning artistic honesty.

“Disconnected" is about the abrupt moment you lose someone. It’s grief suspended in time. Veronica notes, “I tried to capture the feeling of having someone you loved ripped from you. It’s the shock and the loss.”

Alongside her deeply emotive vocals, Veronica lays down haunting electric guitar riffs and piano, invoking the mood of a modern-day 'Wuthering Heights'. The official music video portrays the protagonist grappling with the departure of a loved one, haunted by their presence and driven to chase after them across windswept fields. In the song, the rhythm section propels the narrative forward with driving momentum, while the arrangement unfolds expansively and builds into the tragic, heart-breaking moment of discovery. The song was written for a close family friend, Nathaniel, who died of accidental drug poisoning and is dedicated to him.

The video, which premiered via Under the Radar, was shot on an abandoned farm in upstate, New York by Michael Beach. It portrays a scene of a shattered home and the loss of a young person.
